# Parent and sub-issues

Sub-issues split a larger task into individual issues. Each can have its own status, priority, and assignee.

## Create a sub-issue

1. Open the parent issue.
2. Select **Add sub-issue**.
3. Enter a title and description, and set properties as needed.
4. Select **Create**.

The parent shows its sub-issues and completed count. Use display options to show or hide completed sub-issues.

## Set a parent for an existing issue

If an issue has no parent, use the set parent control in its details to search for and select an existing issue.

## Update a sub-issue

Change status, priority, or assignee from the parent's sub-issue list. Select the title to open the sub-issue's details.
